Judge expresses frustration as suspected killer evades justice in Victor Hamilton case

Three men were sentenced on Wednesday for charges arising from the killing of “entirely innocent” Co Antrimman Victor Hamilton. But as the trio were handed jail time, a judge admitted the suspected killer “has escaped” at least for now. Mamadu Saido Djalo's Sentence

Mamadu Saido Djalo, 32, from Derryveen Crescent in Dungannon pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter and was handed a sentence of six years by Mr Justice O'Hara. The sentence was divided equally between prison and licence. Mario Menezes and Michael Hanrahan's Sentences

Mario Menezes, 35, from Portmore Street in Portadown, and Michael Hanrahan, 43, of Thomas Street in Craigavon both admitted a charge of withholding information. Each received a two-year sentence, also divided equally between jail and supervised licence. The Suspected Killer

The man suspected of carrying out the fatal knife attack was named in court as Casemiro Sano Lopez Vaz. He fled to his native Portugal after Mr Hamilton's death and remains at large due to current Portuguese legislation. Mr Justice O'Hara expressed hope for a change in law to bring Vaz to justice.
