Union's Warning: Railways in Northern Ireland at Risk of Halting

Transport union TSSA has issued a warning of potential industrial action due to a pay dispute among its members at Ulsterbus and Northern Ireland Railways, operating underTranslink. The prospect of services being reduced or not running at all is looming as members are currently voting on the issue, with ballots closing on June 16.

TSSA Members Prepare for Action
Members are being asked if they support taking industrial action short of a strike and action that includes a strike. The TSSA has been advocating for a 'yes' vote to both questions.

Reasons Behind the Dispute
Disputes stem from the failure to offer a satisfactory pay award for 2024 in the Clerical and MPT grades, with members feeling unfairly treated in comparison to other grades within the company.

Call for Action
TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust, commented: "Our union does not take this step lightly, but we have been left with no choice after other grades in Translink were offered the equivalent of a 5.77 per cent pay increase." She further urged members to support the industrial action to push for pay equality.
