Rory McIlroy's Generosity and the Golfing Legend's Charity Contributions

A Northern Ireland charity has hailed the support of Rory McIlroy as it responded to reports that the Holywood golfer donated his entire Masters prize money to their cause.
The Donation Clarification
McIlroy completed the career grand slam on Sunday after beating Justin Rose in a tense play-off at Augusta National. It saw the 35-year-old finally win the famous Green Jacket and earn $4,200,000 (£3.1m) in prize money. Recent online speculation claimed McIlroy donated the sum to Mencap, a charity supporting thousands of people with a learning disability. However, in a statement on Wednesday, Mencap NI clarified that the reports were 'not accurate.' Executive Director Strategy, Jackie O'Sullivan said, 'We remain deeply grateful for his generosity and commitment to our cause and would like to congratulate him on his recent wins.'
McIlroy's Ongoing Support
McIlroy has been a long-time supporter of Mencap, previously donating £500,000 to help build the Mencap Centre in Belfast in 2016. The Rory Foundation's significant pledge was crucial in the success of the Big Step Forward Appeal, Mencap NI’s most ambitious fundraising campaign in history. The purpose-built facility, opened in March 2016, has been changing the lives of children with a learning disability. McIlroy's dedication to the charity continues to make a meaningful impact on the community.
