Stormont's Reminder: How to Save on Your Rates Bill

A reminder has been issued by Stormont this week for people who may be entitled to help with their rates bill.

Rates bills went out to properties across Northern Ireland earlier this month, with approximately 850,000 rateable domestic properties and around 75,000 non-domestic properties here.

Bills began to be issued to properties and businesses from Thursday, April 3.

Last year, almost £1.6 billion was collected in rates, providing funding for essential public services including health, education, infrastructure.

Department of Finance at Stormont:

A reminder to people that "Housing Benefit and Low Income Rate Relief may be available to low income domestic ratepayers who are not eligible to claim Universal Credit".

NI Direct Reminder:

"People on low incomes can get help to pay their rate bill. If you or you and your partner are of state pension age you can apply for Housing Benefit and Rate Relief. If you are getting Universal Credit you may be entitled to Rate Rebate to help pay rates."
