Police Officer Admits to Domestic Abuse Spree

A police officer has pleaded guilty to a campaign of domestic abuse against a former partner.
Court Appearance
Alan McKinney pleaded guilty at Downpatrick Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 14, to two domestic abuse charges for offences against a former partner that took place between September 1, 2022, and September 8, 2024.
Nature of Offences
He admitted to engaging in a course of behaviour that was abusive to his former partner and was likely to cause her to suffer physical or psychological harm for more than two years along with an incident of common assault on May 7, 2024.
Suspension and Investigation
The police officer, who is understood to have worked from Downpatrick Police Station, is currently suspended by the force. An internal misconduct investigation is currently underway in connection with the offences, and the PSNI have not said when the officer was suspended.
Response from PSNI
When asked about the conviction of a police officer for domestic abuse, a PSNI spokesperson said: 'As this is now the subject of an internal misconduct investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment.'
Sentencing Date
