Chief of Police Condemns Violence in Ballymena

Police Condemn Violence in Ballymena
The head of the PSNI has condemned disgraceful scenes of violence during a second night of disorder and rioting on the streets of Ballymena on Tuesday. Police officers came under sustained attack in the Clonavon Terrace area of the Co Antrim town over a number of hours with multiple petrol bombs, heavy masonry, bricks, and fireworks thrown in their direction.
Protests and Police Response
Earlier in the evening, a number of protests took place in areas of Belfast, Lisburn, Coleraine, and Newtownabbey. Officers attended to monitor the situation and ensure an appropriate and proportionate policing response. Businesses and homes were attacked and damaged, and a number of vehicles were also set on fire in the area. Meanwhile, 17 police officers were injured with some requiring hospital treatment.
Appeal for Calm
PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher strongly appealed for an immediate halt to the criminal activities and disorder, emphasizing the importance of upholding justice and safety for all. He reassured those affected that the PSNI is committed to identifying and prosecuting the offenders, urging the public to stand against hate-fueled violence and lawlessness.
