Inside the Life of a Probation Officer: Transforming Lives After Prison

Despite initially aiming to be a teacher, Rory Mills decided to change direction and support young people in a different way – as a social worker.

Early Beginnings
Rory gained experience with young people through the charity Community Service Volunteers, where he learned about the impactful role of social workers in the lives of youth.

Shift to Probation Officer
After qualifying as a social worker, Rory worked with young offenders before joining the Probation Service in England, eventually moving to HMP Maghaberry in Northern Ireland.

Current Role
Now a probation officer at the Probation Board for Northern Ireland, Rory supports adult males post-release, helping them reintegrate into society and providing expert input during Parole Hearings.
