Key Updates: Northern Ireland Rates Bills Issued This Week

Rates bills will be issued across Northern Ireland this week. There are approximately 850,000 rateable domestic properties and around 75,000 non-domestic properties here. Bills will begin to be issued to properties and businesses from Thursday, April 3.

Public Services Funding
Last year, almost £1.6 billion was collected in rates, providing funding for essential public services including health, education, and infrastructure.

Relief Schemes
A wide range of application-based rate relief schemes are available, including Rate Rebate for those in receipt of Universal Credit and a discount for pensioners aged over 70 who live alone.

Payment Methods
Domestic ratepayers can receive a 4% discount if they pay their 2025/26 rates in full by Friday 9 May 2025. Various payment methods are available such as Direct Debit, Online, and at a Post Office or PayPoint.
