Man Charged in Connection to Sectarian Attacks in North Belfast

A man is due in court facing a charge linked to attacks on homes in North Belfast.

Police Investigation:
Police investigating reports of ‘sectarian motivated crime’ in the Oldpark area on Wednesday, May 21 made an arrest today and subsequently charged a man with criminal damage. It is understood the charge is linked to attacks on homes in the Annalee Street and Alloa Street area in which windows were smashed at a number of properties.

Community Outrage:
The attacks were widely condemned, with the First and Deputy First Ministers joining the chorus of anger at the attacks which saw masonry thrown at people’s homes.

Legal Proceedings:
In a brief statement issued on Tuesday evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: “A 45-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday 3rd June and has since been charged with criminal damage and is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday 1st July. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
