Scam Unveiled: Man Sentenced for Fraudulent Disability Benefit Claims Overseas

Fraudulent Claims Uncovered
A Northern Ireland man, Kevin McCallion, aged 55, found himself in legal trouble for deceitfully obtaining more than £35,000 in disability benefits while living outside the country. The individual was convicted at Derry Crown Court, where it was revealed that he failed to disclose his overseas residence while claiming Employment & Support Allowance, Universal Credit, and Personal Independence Payment. As a consequence, McCallion received a suspended ten-month sentence, along with an obligation to reimburse the wrongfully acquired funds. The Department for Communities emphasized the seriousness of benefit fraud incidents and encouraged the public to report suspicions anonymously.
