Survivor's Call: Break Free from Domestic Abuse and Speak Out

A woman who had her jaw broken and teeth knocked out at the hands of a vicious ex-partner has spoken out about the abuse she suffered as he is jailed for domestic violence.
The abuse left Eva with serious facial injuries including a fractured palate and jaw, and five displaced teeth, leading to multiple surgeries. She recently spoke at the PSNI’s launch of their ‘Power to Change’ campaign, urging men and boys to help affect a cultural and societal shift.

Journey to Recovery
Eva shared her harrowing journey to recovery following the assault. She boldly stated, 'After an incident in 2023, I looked in the mirror and saw a desperate woman staring back, her mouth covered in blood, her teeth hanging by threads of gum in the middle.' She highlighted the prevalence of abuse and harassment faced by women in Northern Ireland and called for a change in societal attitudes.

Taking a Stand
McLuckie, the perpetrator, received a two and a half year sentence, serving 15 months in custody and 15 months on license. Detectives emphasized the importance of reporting domestic abuse and supporting victims. The PSNI's 'Power to Change' campaign encourages men and boys to challenge negative behaviors and intervene to prevent abuse from escalating.
