Mother's Heartfelt Tribute to Brave Daughter as Justice is Served

The mother of a woman who was murdered in her own home five years ago has paid tribute to her "fearless" daughter after her killer was sentenced.

Justice Served
The mum-of-four Natasha Melendez was subjected to a serious assault in her home in Lisburn on March 22, 2020. She died from her injuries some days later.

Sentence and Closure
John David Scott was given a life sentence last June after pleading guilty to murder and three previous assaults on Ms Melendez, including grievous bodily harm with intent. On June 6, the 36-year-old, appearing before Belfast Crown Court, was told he will serve a minimum of 19 years in prison.

Heartbreaking Tribute
After the sentencing, Natasha's mother, Maria De Los Angeles Mejias, paid tribute to her daughter, describing her as vibrant and fearless. Mejias expressed the deep loss her family feels and the pain caused by the tragic events.

Urge for Action
Detective Chief Inspector Kerrie Foreman urged any victim of abuse to come forward, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and support. The case highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the need for vigilance and action.
