Mother and Son Accused in Ballymena Riot Case

A mother and son duo face accusations of involvement in racially aggravated riots in Ballymena, appearing in court together as co-accused on Friday.
The Court Appearance
Mum Tracey Elizabeth Kane, 50, and her 30-year-old son Kelvin James Kane appeared in the dock together at Coleraine Magistrates' Court. Kelvin, with an address at Dunclug Gardens in Ballymena, is accused of multiple charges including riot, burglary, criminal damage, and drug possession. Tracy, residing at Galgorm Gardens in Ballymena, is charged with intentionally encouraging or assisting rioting.
Police Testimony
During the court session, evidence was presented indicating that the mother was seen on aerial CCTV footage allegedly handing her son two glass bottles to be used during the public disorder. Kelvin was reportedly involved in throwing items at houses, damaging property, and directing others towards confrontations.
Bail Denied
The police objected to bail, highlighting the seriousness of the charges against the accused and their potential impact on public safety and property. Tracy Kane, with a history of criminal convictions, was denied bail based on the evidence presented. Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on July 10.
