Man Faces Bail Revocation Amid Suspicious Arrest Incident

A 38-year old man awaiting sentence for aggravated burglary had his bail revoked.
Bail Revoked After Arrest in Suspicious Circumstances
Peter Szitai's bail was revoked after he was arrested in the garden of a property in Belfast earlier this month. The Crown prosecutor cited Szitai's 'inability to refrain from committing further offences' as the grounds for bail revocation. Szitai, due to be sentenced next month for aggravated burglary, accepted the charges against him from a previous offence in September 2024.
Arrest 'Under Suspicious Circumstances'
On April 9, police arrested Szitai after he was found in a garden in Belfast distancing from a black backpack and gloves. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Szitai was apprehended on suspicion of being equipped for theft. His defense barrister emphasized his client's presumed innocence and detailed Szitai's account of the incident involving a man he claimed to be pursuing.
Concerns Over Future Offending
Despite facing possible custody next month, Szitai's bail opposition highlighted familial responsibilities and the need for continued bail. However, Judge Gilpin expressed concerns over the risk of further offending, noting previous convictions in both the UK and Slovakia.
