Police are currently in attendance at a security alert in North Belfast. Officers were called to the scene at Cavehill in the Antrim Road area this morning.

APSNI spokesperson said: "Police are currently in attendance at the scene of an ongoing security alert at Cavehill, in the Antrim Road area of north Belfast. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time."

Posting on Facebook, Belfast Zoo said: "We are open as normal today until 6 pm, last admission 4.30 pm. The entrance to the zoo has not been affected by the ongoing security alert on the Antrim Road."

Local BBC weatherman Barra Best has said that he has heard multiple explosions from the scene. It is understood that the ongoing security alert is centered on the grounds of Belfast Castle, with all roads to the castle closed. A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are currently in attendance at the scene of an ongoing security alert at Cavehill, in the Antrim Road area of north Belfast. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time."
