Irish Rap Group Member Charged with Terrorism for Supporting Banned Organization

A member of Irish-language rap group Kneecap has been charged with a terror offence. Liam O'Hanna, known as Mo Chara, faces accusations of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, an outlawed organization in the UK. The 27-year-old from Belfast will appear in court following an incident at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London, in November 2024. The Metropolitan Police acted on an online video and subsequent investigation that led to the charge being authorized. Controversy has surrounded the band, with political figures questioning their association with terrorist groups. The band, however, has denied supporting Hamas or Hezbollah, stating the footage was exploited. The situation has sparked a debate around free speech, terrorism, and artistic expression.
