Heartbreaking Journey: Injured GAA Player Driven Across Border Due to Ambulance Delay

A young GAA player suffering from a serious injury and drifting in and out of consciousness was told an ambulance could be 'hours away' last weekend.
Incident Details
The incident happened in Co Fermanagh last Sunday in the Andrew McNeill Cup final between Fermanagh and Louth. The game was held up for some time after Louth midfielder Finn Carter was injured in the second half. Emergency services were contacted but, 'it's understood that the wait could have been up to two hours long,' a spokesperson for the Fermanagh GAA Under-20 Hurling team explained.
Painful Journey
Carter was said to be in serious pain and reportedly 'drifting in and out of consciousness' so a decision was made to get him into his parents' car and travel all the way back to Louth for medical assistance. The delays facing hospital emergency departments and ambulance crews in the region continue to pose challenges for timely healthcare services.
