Adorable Baby Boom: Belfast Zoo Welcomes Precious New Arrivals

Belfast Zoo is celebrating a very special spring baby boom, with a host of precious new arrivals born to some of the world’s rarest and most vulnerable species.
Cotton-Top Tamarin Arrival
Among the newest additions is a cotton-top tamarin, one of the most endangered primates globally. Born to experienced parents Vicky and Spencer, this marks their ninth baby amid a species population of fewer than 2,000 mature individuals in the wild, as per the IUCN Red List.
Australian Habitat Delight
In the ‘Animals of Australia’ habitat, Bruce and Sheila, the emu pair, have joyously welcomed five fluffy chicks, while a baby wallaby joey curiously peeks from its mother’s pouch. These delightful new additions are capturing the hearts of visitors.
Meerkat Mob Expansion
The meerkat mob, settling in comfortably, has seen two new pups in their second litter of the year, showcasing their swift integration into Belfast Zoo life.
Conservation and Care
Lara Clarke, Belfast Zoo Curator, notes, “This baby boom is something truly special in ensuring the survival of endangered species. Our breeding success underscores the critical role modern Zoos play in conservation, education, and species preservation.”
