Discovering Joy and Affection Post-Daughter's Life-Altering Operation

Little Ellie Sloan's life changed forever after brain tumour surgery but despite some very tough times, her family have found light, laughter, and love again at one very special place.
Ellie's Journey
Ellie, from Co Down, doesn’t speak, and she needs a wheelchair to get around. Just before she turned three, she had surgery for a non-cancerous brain tumour. It was supposed to be straightforward, but she ended up in intensive care for six weeks. Her parents, Philip and Michelle, have shared the story of their six-year-old daughter to mark Children’s Hospice Week.
A Sanctuary of Peace
Philip and Michelle recount how the Children’s Hospice provided respite and care beyond their expectations. From personalized rooms to hydro pool sessions, the hospice has become a source of positivity and relaxation for Ellie and her family.
A Lifeline for Families
The hospice not only helps Ellie but provides essential support and a sense of community for her parents. Philip and Michelle express their gratitude for the specialized care and understanding the hospice team offers, making it a comforting retreat for both Ellie and themselves.
