Beware: Daffodil Bouquets Could Harm Your Home and Flowers

Spring Blooms and Daffodil Delight

Spring has arrived, and with it comes the sight of supermarkets brimming with bunches of bright yellow flowers. We're talking about Daffodils, of course: a classic bloom known for its mood-lifting colour, unique shape, and budget-friendly price tag.

Warning from the Florist

Elforist's flower expert David Denyer has issued a 'vital' warning for those who've recently bought these popular blooms. If not handled correctly, daffodils can harm other flowers in your home and cause unpleasant skin reactions. In a statement to the Mirror, David explained that when you cut the bottoms of daffodil stems, they release a 'sticky sap' that is toxic to both plants and humans. To avoid skin irritation or a rash, he recommends wearing gloves when handling them, reports the Mirror.

Tips for Safe Handling

David further explained that once you've completed this step, there's no need to isolate your daffodils every time you trim the stems or change the water in your bouquet. It's also crucial to keep daffodils in shallow water and refresh it every couple of days.
