Northern Ireland's First Minister rushes back to attend Pope's funeral

First Minister Michelle O'Neill is hoping to attend the Pope's funeral in Rome tomorrow, after cutting short a family holiday in the hopes of being present.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly's Decision

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, however, has confirmed she won't be attending. Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday due to a stroke and heart failure. Leaders from around the world are expected to be in attendance for his funeral at 10 am in St Peter's Square in Rome. Talks are underway to secure an official invite for the First Minister of Northern Ireland to attend. Mrs O'Neill described Pope Francis as a 'man of great faith and a strong leader' and underlined his efforts towards peace and compassion on various global issues. Catholics worldwide are mourning the loss of the beloved pontiff.
