Victory in Europe Day 80th Anniversary: Celebrations in Northern Ireland

Victory in Europe Day 80 Spotlight
Church services and street parties will be held in towns and cities across Northern Ireland next month to mark VE Day’s 80th anniversary. Victory in Europe Day, known as VE Day, is celebrated on May 8 each year to mark the day the Allies formally accepted Germany’s surrender in 1945.
Celebrating History and Sacrifice
The 75th anniversary took place under Covid-19 restrictions, but now neighbours and communities can celebrate safely together with food and music, just like they did 80 years ago. Street parties, picnics, and community celebrations are being encouraged across the country to strengthen community bonds and pay tribute to the sacrifice made during the Second World War.
Planned Events in Northern Ireland
Belfast will mark the anniversary with a series of events at City Hall on May 7 and May 8. Lisburn will also host a day of celebratory events to honor and remember those who sacrificed for peace and freedom eight decades ago. Additional events include historical talks, exhibitions, and guided tours to commemorate VE Day's 80th anniversary.
