Belfast Zoo Closed Due to E. Coli Detection: Updates and Safety Measures

Belfast Zoo Closure Due to E. Coli Detection
Belfast City Council has issued an apology to visitors as Belfast Zoo has been shut down after the discovery of e. coli in the water on the premises. The closure, initiated on Tuesday, June 10, while tests have been conducted to eliminate the bacteria from the system, will extend until Friday, June 13. The precautionary measures come after a small amount of e. coli was found in routine water samples. Closure Extension
Although subsequent samples have met regulatory standards, additional sampling has been suggested by the Public Health Agency as a safeguard measure. The Belfast City Council assures that actions aligned with the recommendations of the NI Environment Agency are being implemented to ensure safety for both staff and animals during the continuation of testing regimes. The Zoo's dedicated team remains on-site to care for the animals, with a commitment to reopen as soon as possible. Further information will be available via the Zoo’s communication channels, including its website and social media pages. Visitors who had made reservations from Tuesday, June 10, to Friday, June 13, are encouraged to contact the Zoo team for rescheduling or refunds.
