Irish Conman Faces Charges for Multi-Million Pound Fraud

A self-confessed conman jailed for a major banking racket has admitted a further multi-million pound fraud. Facing New Charges
West Belfast man John Cartmill, known for scamming TV presenters Stephen Nolan and Eamonn Holmes, received a four-year sentence this month for over 40 fraud and money laundering offences. He pleaded guilty to a £1.3m scam between 2018 and 2020. Now, he faces prosecution over 60 separate charges related to swindling bank customers via social media. Elaborate Scheme
Cartmill is accused of defrauding banks like Barclays, HSBC, and others by posing as a bank official. He used fake email addresses and a freephone number to manipulate transactions. The accused even used online IP addresses from Spain, where he traveled frequently. Cartmill has a history of 159 previous offences and was previously convicted of credit card fraud against Nolan and Holmes in 2014. Ongoing Legal Process
Today, Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard that the case will be referred to the Public Prosecution Service for consideration. Cartmill has admitted to all 63 offences, aiming for sentencing before his release. The case was adjourned until May 15 for further updates.
