Chaos in Ballymena: Arrest Made After Officers Injured and Properties Damaged

The PSNI has strongly condemned the disorder on the streets of Ballymena on Monday night that saw 15 officers injured, six homes and two police vehicles damaged, and one man arrested.

Vigil Turns Violent
At around 7.30 pm, a planned vigil gathered in the Galgorm Road area, leading to disturbances in various parts of the town.

Racially Motivated Attacks
The violence included the targeting of homes and businesses, with reports of racially-motivated hate attacks damaging several properties.

Police Response
Officers faced sustained attacks with petrol bombs and projectiles, resulting in injuries to 15 officers who required hospital treatment.

Arrest Made
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of riotous behavior and other charges.

Condemnation
Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson condemned the violence, emphasizing its racially motivated nature and the need for strong condemnation and justice for the victims.
