Man Arrested After Dramatic River Escape in South Belfast

A man jumped into the River Lagan in an effort to escape police in South Belfast before being arrested in connection with attempted burglaries.

Police received reports of a male attempting to enter properties in the Stranmillis area of the city in the early hours of Wednesday, June 18. South Belfast officers quickly located the suspect, leading to a foot pursuit. The suspect tried to evade capture by jumping into the River Lagan and swimming away; however, he was promptly detained. He was arrested for two attempted burglaries and remains in custody at this time.
