Alliance Councillors Take the Helm in Ards and North Down

The Alliance Party has scored a local authority “double” for the first time in Ards and North Down with two councillors elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Appointment of Councillors:
Ards and North Down Borough Council has elected Alliance Councillor Gillian McCollum and Alliance Councillor Vicky Moore to the roles of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the incoming term of office.

Inauguration:
The appointments were made during the annual meeting of the council on Wednesday morning (June 4). The first monthly meeting of the council under the direction of the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will take place on Wednesday, June 25.

Background of Gillian McCollum:
Gillian McCollum was elected for Bangor East and Donaghadee district electoral area in May 2023, and moved to become councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye last October. She brings a wealth of experience from public relations, law, mediation, and years of community service.

Vision of the Mayor:
Gillian McCollum, the new Mayor, emphasized the theme of 'belonging' for her mayoral year, advocating for unity, responsibility, and respect within the community.

Deputy Mayor Vicky Moore:
Deputy Mayor Vicky Moore, representing the Newtownards district, has a background in the voluntary community sector and community development. She took office after being co-opted to replace Nick Mathison, now an MLA.
