New Safety Measures for Over-Filled Bins in Belfast

Black bins in Belfast face new safety measures as residents not following bin regulations will receive warnings affecting waste collection. Officials at a Belfast City Council committee announced a new health and safety drive involving an introductory period from May 12 to June 23. During this period, waste disposal workers will leave warnings for over-filled bins with lids unable to close or lined with large bin liners. Bins marked with amber tags will have warnings without penalty for three cycles. Enforcement of the full policy, with red tags and non-emptying, begins on June 23. The council's decision follows a coroner's report and aims to prevent incidents related to waste service workers and faulty bin lifter mechanisms.
