The Lowdown on the Disposable Vape Ban

Crackdown on Disposable Vapes

This weekend marks the start of a UK-wide ban on disposable vapes. From June 1, it will be illegal for businesses to sell or supply single use vapes across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. From this date, products will only be compliant if they are refillable and rechargeable.

Environmental Impact

It's estimated that as many as five million single-use vapes are simply thrown in bins or littered every week across the UK, rather than being recycled. The new restriction aims to reduce the number of vapes going into landfill or discarded as litter, where they can release harmful substances into the environment and endanger wildlife.

Legal Implications

It will be illegal to sell disposable vapes from June 1 but if you already own one, you can still use it. So having disposable vapes in your possession after June 1 won't be illegal if you're not planning to sell or supply them. If you still have disposable vapes after June 1, you can return the vapes and its parts to shops that have previously sold them, which will have an obligation to dispose of them properly.
